Butyl polymers have the following attributes that make them attractive for
chewing gum:

Due to their low permeability, these polymers retain flavor
longer-than-natural, gum-based products; therefore, a less expensive flavor
can be used.

They impart good low temperature flexibility. The gum does not become brittle
and shatter, even in heavily-filled compounds.

These polymers contain no or very few additives at low levels.

They are known for their outstanding stability and aging resistance. They are
not easily degraded during processing under heat and shear. Little or no
antioxidant is required to stabilize these polymers
