Tires

There’s more to a tire than just size and tread. The chemical properties of the tire’s body help determine how long the tire will last and how effectively it will remain inflated.

Butyl polymers we manufacture have dramatically improved the durability and performance of tires. Better durability means reduced chemical degradation over time – so tires stay in better shape longer. Fewer tires need to be manufactured and purchased.

Also, less fuel is wasted when tires stay properly inflated longer. It’s estimated that 25 percent of U.S. vehicle tires are substantially underinflated, making for unsafe driving conditions and wasting an estimated 1.2 billion gallons of fuel each year in the United States alone.

What's next in rubber

We are launching a new era in tire innovation with a unique dynamically vulcanized blend of Exxpro™ Specialty Elastomers and nylon. The result is a tire innerliner with the flexibility and elasticity of rubber, and the low air permeability of plastic.

Tires manufactured using this technology are lighter than conventional tires and require up to 80 percent less material in the innerliner. These new innerliners can improve the air retention of the tires and reduce their weight, which leads to improved fuel efficiency.
